Dear Families,

We can hardly believe it is November already!  Our school calendar is filled with activities you may want to make note of, so that you can be involved in your child’s educational experience.

The cookie dough sales event was a big success.  All students benefit from the sales with special programs and extra field trips.  Thank you to the parents and family members who make this project so successful.

Students in Kindergarten through Second Grades will be taking Achievement Tests during the week of November 9-13.  Students in Kindergarten, Second, and Fourth grades will also be taking the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) that week.

School pictures will be taken November 12th

November 16-20 is American Education Week.  Students will be participating in a program on Thursday beginning at 9:00.  Our fifth graders will be leading this assembly.  Students from each grade will read their winning essays and the Wildcat Chorale will be performing.

The annual Elementary Turkey Trot will begin at 9:00 on Friday, November 20th.  Parents, family, and friends are welcome to join us for this event in our school neighborhood.  Immediately following grade level winners for the race will be announced and prizes will be presented.

Monday and Tuesday, November 23-24, will be our second set of OFYP days.  Students will be given the opportunity to participate in small group learning situations as determined by the teacher.  Our first OFYP day in October was a great success.

Students and sponsors are busy practicing for the UIL competition which is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th at Hart’s Bluff.  Check our website in December for a list of how we ranked in all the events!

Our faculty is dedicated to helping our students finish strong by encouraging them to work hard in class and at home so they are prepared for new learning experiences each day.  At Big Sandy Elementary we believe in Finishing Strong!

Our staff always values your ideas and concerns.  We hope you will find opportunities to be involved in your child’s education.  By working together we can make this a great learning experience for every child.  Please visit with your child’s teacher frequently to be sure that we are all working together for our students’ success.

If I can be of any service to you, please call the school office at 903-636-5287, extension 226.
