Our character trait for citizenship has two specific ideals that make good citizens. The first ideal is to Do Your Share. If you show this part of citizenship you will be a good citizen and a good neighbor. You care about and pursue the common good. You would volunteer to help your school and community be better, cleaner, and safer. A person who does his/her share protects the environment by conserving resources, reducing pollution, and cleaning up after themselves. They participate in making things better by voicing their opinions, voting, serving on committees, reporting wrongdoing, and paying taxes.
The second ideal of citizenship is Respect for Authority and the Law. The person showing this character trait plays by the rules. They obey parents, teachers, coaches, and others who have been given authority. They will obey laws and honor and respect principles of democracy.
